One of my challenges is to find a personal message in the daily Scripture readings, especially in the Old Testament. Today, it is loud and clear.
Moses is 120 years old and is nearing the end of his life and his leadership of the tribes of Israel. (Deuteronomy 31:1-8) The people are still on their way to the promised land. They have experienced many ordeals in their wanderings in the Sinai desert and there is still more to come. The promised land is populated by fierce tribes who are more numerous. The people are intimidated. Moses encourages them: Be brave and steadfast; have no fear or dread … for it is the Lord, your God, who marches with you; He will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed.”
The message I get out of today’s reading is just what I need to hear. Like the ancient tribes…
